How Did Lord Ram Attain Moksha? The Divine Journey of Ramlalla

How Did Lord Ram Attain Moksha? The Divine Journey of Ramlalla

The Ramayana is a sacred Hindu epic that teaches us about dharma (righteousness) and devotion. Lord Ram, the seventh incarnation of Vishnu, is loved for his virtue and justice. His life was full of challenges, but one question remains—how did Lord Rama leave this world?

The Valmiki Ramayana mostly tells the story of Lord Ram’s life and victory over Ravana. However, details about his departure are found in other scriptures like the Padma Purana and Uttara Kanda. Let’s explore how Lord Rama returned to Vaikuntha, his eternal home.

Lord Ram’s Purpose on Earth

After ruling Ayodhya for many years, Lord Rama created ‘Ram Rajya’—a kingdom of peace, justice, and happiness. But every divine incarnation has a set time on Earth. One day, a special visitor arrived, Kala Deva, the God of Time.

A Message from Vaikuntha

Disguised as a sage, Kala Deva asked for a private meeting with Lord Rama. Understanding the importance, Ram asked his loyal brother Lakshmana to guard the door and not let anyone enter. He warned that anyone who interrupted would face the death penalty.

Kala Deva then revealed his true identity and shared Lord Vishnu’s message—Ram’s mission on Earth was complete, and it was time for him to return to Vaikuntha.

Lakshmana’s Difficult Choice

While they were talking, Sage Durvasa came to the palace and demanded to see Lord Rama immediately. Lakshmana politely asked him to wait, but Durvasa, known for his quick temper, threatened to curse the kingdom.

Lakshmana had to make a tough decision—to allow the curse to destroy Ayodhya or break Ram’s command. He chose the latter and entered the chamber.

Lakshmana’s Sacrifice

Lord Rama was heartbroken. He had to keep his word, which meant punishing Lakshmana. To follow dharma, he had to exile his beloved brother. Instead of facing exile, Lakshmana chose to leave his mortal body by immersing himself in the sacred Sarayu River.

Seeing this, Lord Rama knew that his time on Earth was also ending. He prepared to leave his human form and return to the divine realm.

Lord Ram’s Final Journey

Lord Rama called the people of Ayodhya and told them he would soon leave. His brothers and followers begged to go with him, unable to imagine life without him.

Wearing simple robes, Lord Rama walked towards the Sarayu River. Devotees chanted his name, and celestial beings appeared to witness this holy event.

Attaining Moksha

When he reached the river, Lord Rama entered the waters and merged into the divine light of Lord Vishnu. His human form disappeared, and he returned to Vaikuntha, where Mata Sita and Lakshmana awaited him. Many of his devoted followers also entered the river, attaining moksha (liberation) with him.

Lord Ram’s Eternal Presence

Though Lord Rama left his mortal body, his presence remains forever. He lives in the hearts of his devotees, in the chants of Jai Shri Ram,’ and in the ideals of truth and righteousness. The grand Shri Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya stands as proof that he is always with us.

Conclusion

Lord Ram’s departure was not an end but a return to his divine home. His life continues to inspire millions to follow the path of dharma and devotion. By remembering and chanting his name, we keep his divine energy alive.

May we always walk the path of righteousness, just as our beloved Ramlalla did.

Jai Shri Ram!
